Fire Alarm System Layout

Course Description: This 8 contact hour course provides students with in-depth instruction on how to use the requirements of the NFPA codes to properly layout a fire alarm system.

Course Topics Include:

    Overview of NFPA 72, Chapter 17, Initiating Devices spacing and location requirements

    Overview of NFPA 72, Chapter 18, Notification Appliances spacing and location requirements

    Overview of NFPA 70 requirements

    Overview of NFPA 170 symbols

   Detector spacing and location exercises

   Notification appliance spacing and location exercises

   Battery and voltage drop calculations

   System layout exercises

 

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the qualified individual will be able to identify NFPA requirements for the proper spacing and location of initiating devices, notification appliances, and all associated fire alarm system equipment.  Using the knowledge gained from the course instruction and the exercises, the student will have the knowledge to develop and/or review a set of working drawings for fire alarm systems.
