Shawn Lee

President | Lead Instructor | Content Developer

Shawn served in the U.S. Air Force for nearly 27 years before retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant.  During his military career he had the opportunity to serve as an electrician, security and fire alarm technician, electrical instructor, and as an inspector for one of the Air Force’s Inspector General teams.  Shawn began his career in fire alarm systems in 1996, predominantly performing emergency (standby) repairs while assigned to Osan Air Base, Republic of South Korea.  He left Korea for Kadena Air Base, Okinawa in February 1997 and was assigned to work in an alarms maintenance shop.  While assigned to the alarms maintenance shop, Shawn set up the shop’s recurring training program and began instructing younger technicians how to install and repair fire alarm systems.

In October 1998, Shawn became an electrical instructor at a training detachment while still at Kadena Air Base.  It was there he found his love of being an instructor and for the fire protection industry.  In addition to his duties to develop, update, and teach courses in high and low voltage electrical distribution systems and emergency airfield lighting systems, Shawn was also tasked to develop and teach a new five-day fire alarm training course for technicians assigned to nine military bases in the Pacific Theater.  The course was designed for Air Force technicians who had little-to-no experience.  The class covered fire alarm systems and components, hands-on troubleshooting, repairs, and NFPA requirements.  In 2000, Shawn developed a second five-day hands-on course for more experienced technicians.  This class focused on addressable fire alarm system programming, troubleshooting, and fire alarm system layout.  He taught both courses until his departure from Okinawa in September 2003.

From September 2003 until his retirement from military service in December 2016, Shawn continued to be involved with fire alarm systems.  During this period, he was able to use his expertise to inspect fire protection maintenance programs for Air Force dormitories; update a regional fire sprinkler inspection program for 160 Air Force active, Guard, and Reserve installations; teach formal and informal hands-on fire alarm system training courses covering system layout, installation, and troubleshooting; and he designed and/or supervised the installation of 12 fire alarm systems on military bases in the U.S., Iraq, and the U.A.E.  Shawn has been NICET certified in Fire Alarm Systems (NICET # 104542) since February 2002, attaining Level III certification in March 2007.

What Our Valued Customers Have To Say

I knew nothing about alarms prior to taking this class. After taking this class, I have more comfort working around alarms feeling that I know more about how it works or in other words what it is that I am looking at. Prior to this class I had never installed any alarm devices and not only did we do that, but we had the opportunity to troubleshoot the circuit.

The instructor made the information easy to understand. I’ve taken different courses over this material. This course was the easiest one to understand.

I liked the hands-on portion, but slide show was good as well. Helped me to prepare for what I was about to do.

Shawn Lee is one of the most influential speakers I’ve been able to learn from. His teaching abilities are, by far, geared towards simplistic learning. Being able to breakdown the most technically advanced data so a normal guy like me can understand takes real skill and demonstrates how experienced Shawn is at teaching. Walking away after all of Shawn’s training sessions left me motivated and inspired to tackle any challenge.
